Steph and Tim | Vail Beaver Creek Fashion Engagement and Bridal Portrait Photography

Steph and Tim | Vail Beaver Creek Fashion Engagement and Bridal Portrait Photography

Steph and Tim were looking for a non-traditional engagement and bridal portrait experience and we set out to create some truly unique images.  The setups and resulting photographs range from fashion photography to totally fun and different.   The Osprey at Beaver Creek hotel served as the backdrop and we used the rooms, hallways, and lobby as locations.   This is going to come as a two part post; the first containing the fashion engagement portraits and the second containing
Kelly C | Vail Beaver Creek Senior Life {Style} Portrait Photographer

Kelly C | Vail Beaver Creek Senior Life {Style} Portrait Photographer

Kelly is a senior at Battle Mountain High School in Edwards and could totally have a future in modeling if she chose it.  🙂 Captivating eyes and gorgeous hair made my job real simple when it came time for her Senior Life {Style} Portraits.  We did the session in the studio and had fun rocking out to some Pretty Lights on the speakers while Kelly worked it for the camera.  She brought a friend along for encouragement and I made sure to get some images of the two of them.  In

Rhodes Family Portraits | Vail Portrait Photographer, Vail Children’s Photographer

My friend and colleague Syd had never had professional photographs taken of her and her family so we set up a session last week in the studio.  Syd has an adorable little guy named Oliver who we were able to pull away from his chicken nuggets just long enough to get some great images.  Whenever I take photos of families with young children, I make sure to get some interaction going beyond the typical “Everyone sit there and look at me” posing.  Oliver responded well to tickli

Alex Cordoba | Denver Yoga Portrait Photography

As I have developed more and more in my yoga practice, I have found that there are certain teachers that really stand out and have an innate ability to connect and share beauty and strength with their students. My friend Alex Cordoba is one such teacher. She teaches at multiple studios around Denver including Qi City Park and Lotus Room Yoga as well as offering private instruction. Her website is http://alexcordoba.com/. Alex needed portraits for use on her new website a
    Denver Boudoir Photography: Philippa

    Denver Boudoir Photography: Philippa

I am so excited to share my first boudoir photography session and it features one of my 2011 brides.  I will be photographing Philippa’s wedding to her fiance Ryan on Labor Day at Mile High Station in Denver.  She wanted a unique gift to give to Ryan and we decided that a boudoir session would be perfect. Boudoir photography is a great way to remind yourself how beautiful you are and a fun time to play around with outfits you normally wouldn’t be photographed in.  You can al

lululemon athletica Product Notification March 2011 Weeks 1 and 2

We definitely changed things up a bit with last week’s Product Notification pictures at lululemon.  We got away from our usual fitness inspired poses and played around with a more fashion portrait feel.  I ended up being in some of the pictures while someone else used my camera.  It was fun to model a bit. 🙂 This image isn’t one we used but it cracks me up because Maddy was just having fun hamming it up for the camera so I kept taking pictures.  I love how she did the ’60s

Denver Portrait Photography: Liz B. in Washington Park

Last Saturday, my friend Liz and I went out to Wash Park to take portraits of each other and have some fun.  Liz is another Denver photographer and we both wanted to get out and have some practice being in front of the camera.  I like to try to get pictures of myself taken every so often so that I can know where my clients are coming from.  It is really great experience for me as a photographer to be able to put myself in my subjects’ shoes.  Liz and I just walked around Wash
Telluride Engagement Portraits: Kevin and Shannon

Telluride Engagement Portraits: Kevin and Shannon

I can’t believe it has taken me this long to post these here!  I put them on Facebook a while back and it slipped my mind to blog them.  I talked about my trip to Telluride with my friends/clients Shannon and Kevin a while ago but hadn’t shown you the second round of engagement portraits we did while there.  It was totally unplanned so they only had the clothes they brought with them to wear but it we got some great photographs nonetheless.  The gondola that brings you up the

Denver Portrait Photography: Katelyn, Abby, and ‘Flipper’ at Washington Park

A friend of mine that I have worked with in Breckenridge asked me to photograph some portraits of his daughter’s Katelyn and Abby.  We also took some of Flipper with the kids.  I suggested Washington Park as the location for the session and we agreed to meet there in the late afternoon.  The girls were a little reluctant and I had to work some smiles out of Abby but we got some great pictures and had a fun time.  Flipper strongly prefers black and white images and I processed
Denver Portrait Photography: Chef Matt Flinn

Denver Portrait Photography: Chef Matt Flinn

My good friend Matt Flinn is a personal chef and cooking instructor in Los Angeles and needed some pictures of himself in his chef coat that he could use for marketing purposes.  I wanted to get him into the kitchen and take a variety of poses so he could use the images for various applications.  We also did a couple of more casual shots of him by the bar. Lighting information:  I used an Alien Bees B800 studio flash fired through an umbrella softbox coming in from camera rig

Dallas Portrait Photography: Maggie on the Patio

In addition to the photographs of Maggie and her sister that I took, we also took some portraits of Maggie by herself on the patio.  I used two variations of the same lighting set up with the difference being an added backlight on one. This first one is without the backlight. [singlepic id=529 w=800 h=700 float=] This one has the backlight turned on and directed at the back of the subject’s head. I used a half-snoot to shade the light from spilling down around the bench. [si

Dallas Portrait Photography: Amis Sisters at Lakeside

This past week, I took a trip down to Dallas to visit my girlfriend’s family.  It was my first time in Texas and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it.  Dallas is a great city with a lot going on and has some great places to take pictures.  My girlfriend’s mother wanted pictures of her two daughters so we went to an area called Lakeside and had a fun shoot.  I really like to have a good time during portrait sessions and you can see in the pictures that the girls w

    Hand-Painting: Revisiting an Old Favorite

Sometimes it’s fun to revisit a picture you’ve taken and apply a different post-processing technique to it.  This is one of my favorite baby pictures I’ve taken and I wanted to apply a hand-painting technique to it in which I only apply color to certain elements of the image.  I thought that Curious George might look good in color. 🙂 [singlepic id=360 w=700 h=700 float=] #babies #baby #handpainting #Portraits

Clothing Selection for a Family or Group Portrait

The following are some suggestions related to dressing for your next Family or Group portrait session.  Credits to Virtual Photography Studio Blog for sharing these.  Remember that these suggestions are all oriented towards making you, the subjects, the focus of the portrait and not your clothing.  If you have some really cool or unique clothes that you want to show off and feature in a photograph, I would love to discuss it. Here is the list: 1. Choose one color hue per por
